Congratulations to our 2024 Teacher of the Year, Pam Asberry! Pam served GCMTA as the President from 2019-2021, the President-Elect from 2017-2019, Secretary, and the Central Gwinnett Federated Festival Chair, multiple terms. Pam excels in many music-related areas: teaching, performing, composing. Her students consistently do well in Federated Festival and Music Day, Master Classes, Performance Day, and other events. She worked hard within GCMTA in every one of her positions and brought continuity to our events throughout the pandemic, which was no small feat. Her determination to keep events going at that time was inspiring. Prior to that, her programs when she was President-Elect were wonderful.
Pam has presented at our meetings, other local associations, and at GMTA state conferences many times. Her topics are well-researched, and she is an energetic speaker. She has many great ideas and shares them graciously. Pam also performs solo and collaboratively, and she plays beautifully every time.
Pam found her inner muse a few years ago and started composing for solo piano. One of her compositions, Flamingo Walk, was selected by the National Federation of Music Clubs to use in their 2020-2024 Bulletin. Even though she has quite the following on various platforms, she is not conceited about her successes.
A colleague highly recommended Pam for this honor: “Pam brings so many things to the table, but to mention just a few: the owner and teacher of her private teaching studio – The Asberry School of Music since 2001 with students being distinguished at local and state festivals; continuously active in the GCMTA in many roles including as President (serving during the challenging time of Covid-19); active as an adjudicator and clinician, and published as a composer; as a composer, solo pianist, and BMI Artist – released nine solo CDs with three more CDs recorded this past summer [2023]; her solo piano work FLAMINGO WALK selected for the 2020-24 NFMC Bulletin; she has played concerts nationally and internationally, and has received many awards and honors.”
A parent of two students added these accolades: “Ms. Pam is patient, dedicated, and inspiring… she is not only a wonderful piano teacher, but she deeply cares about her students.”
All of us have benefited from Pam’s involvement in GCMTA; she is always giving of her time and talents with her students and our organization.
We congratulate the GCMTA 2024 Teacher of the Year, Pam Asberry!
