The GCMTA 2016 Teacher of the Year is Susan Andrews. Mrs. Andrews, a member of GCMTA since 1978, is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music in Piano through MTNA and recipient of the Fellow Award from MTNA. She holds a B.M. in Piano Performance from the University of Georgia. She served as the President of GCMTA from 1985-1987 and as the President of Georgia Music Teachers Association from 2002-2004. She has held numerous other positions within her local and state groups; currently she chairs West Federated for GCMTA and serves on the Finance/Advisory Board of GMTA.
Mrs. Andrews is the organist of Harmony Grove United Methodist Church in Lilburn, GA, where she has played for many years. She accompanies instrumental students for recitals and competitions, and she regularly adjudicates throughout the state for festivals and competitions.
Mrs. Andrews received many glowing endorsements from fellow teachers and professional colleagues as well as heartfelt testimonials from several of the families whose students she has taught. She has mentored and helped many teachers within GCMTA, and she epitomizes the concept of “Teacher of the Year.”
