Comments from past and present students and parents include: “She instructs creatively, engages students and always provides motivation and inspiration to work hard.” “She supported and challenged me…while also encouraging me to express my passion for music…Her positive attitude and sweet spirit bring joy to me and so many others. I am extremely grateful for having her as my piano teacher and lifelong friend.” “As a band director, wife of a professional musician and daughter of retired band directors, I recognize superb musicianship and teaching; however, I’ve seen a new side of these as a mother…my daughter wants to practice, not only to improve, but to impress her teacher. I think that is a special trait of amazing and highly respected teachers. Dr. Patterson is an amazing and passionate teacher, and we are so lucky to have her in our lives!”

Dr. Patterson is an exemplary teacher in so many areas – quality teaching, loyal service to professional associations at local and state levels, dedication to professional development and service to the community. It is with great honor and enthusiasm that we hereby name Yumi Patterson as our GCMTA 2019 Teacher of the Year.
